FAQ's
What is the Motability Scheme?
Motability is a registered charity set up to help disabled people and their families to become more mobile. It was set up in 1977 to provide vehicles and powered wheelchairs to disabled people.
Special terms have been arranged with Proton as well as wheelchair and vehicle adaptation suppliers, banks and insurers so that a variety of schemes can be offered to enable disabled people to become more mobile.
Who is eligible?
To qualify for any of the Motability Schemes you must currently be in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- The Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC of DLA) or
- War Pensioners Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or
- Currently be driving a Government vehicle, trike or mini.
Applications are welcomed providing the HRMC of DLA award length is for at least 12 months.
What if I don't drive?
You don't have to be a driver to qualify for one of the Motability Schemes. If you prefer, you can obtain a vehicle as a passenger and propose up to two other people as the permitted drivers through the Contract Hire Scheme.
